So here I go….where do I start? Well blogging, for me, was something I could safely say that I didn’t think would be for me but, yet here I am.
I am going to talk about how my love of vintage china started. About 3 years ago, I was at an auction with a friend. My first vintage china purchase was a beautiful yellow cup and saucer for £2….and that was it, I was hooked.
Over the past few years, china has become a little harder to find but in that time, I have collected quite a selection! Without doing a count, I have approximately 400 trios (cups, saucers and side plates), 40 tiered cake stands, 40+ milk jugs/sugar bowls and about 40+ teapots/coffee pots. I still have that single yellow cup and saucer and it takes pride of place in my display cabinet.
I started making tiered cake stands and selling them. I moved on to hiring my beautiful china for weddings and other occasions. In a box of china acquired, there would be chipped items. Also, breakages would happen and I was throwing away some really beautiful plates with pretty patterns and unusual shapes. I thought that there must be something I can do with them….and my jewellery range was born.
I just love when I see a new item blossoming out of a broken segment of china. It is so satisfying that once loved china is getting a new lease of life in a new form.
I also make custom items from sentimental pieces of china – maybe a chipped cup that belonged to a mum or grandmother who has passed – an item that holds precious memories. Many items can be made from one small item and it means that numerous members of one family can have a special momento of their own.
